Character Abilities
Abilities are properties of Characters that do reflect the players way of playing. Most games with character statistic use a level based or experience based system. In those systems the statistics goe up the more experience points you collect or due to levelling up. This system is not very realistic as it does either cap off at a maximum value or allows uncapped growth. In Epsylon the Abilities work a bit different.
Abilities reflect properties of Characters which are of a natural kind and are measurable. Those are abilities like Health, Strength, Intelligence, Agility or others. If the player uses an action that needs a certain ability and the action is successfull there exists a certain probability that the ability becomes better. This probability gets smaller the higher better the ability is. This yields a player specific capping and provides a nice measurement of his true abilities. If an ability is not used for long time there exists a probabiliy for the ability to decrease. Thus to keep your abilities up you have to use them. Not all abilities have such a time based decrease though.

It is said that with this energy supernatural things can be done but as science does not recognize this energy form yet nobody can proof it. Try it out yourself. |
